After 17 Skincare Experimentations…
We thought it was time to check in with you guys and let you in on what skincare products are working for us at the moment and which ones are simply not. Yup, sadly not all of our CO Approved products work forever! (At least not for us, that is!)
As you know, our skin is affected by all sorts of shenanigans…hormones, diet, stress, allergens, seasonal changes, skincare product changes. OMG! Too, too much. Why can’t we just have perfect skin all the time? A girl can dream!
Because we experiment with so many products, sometimes it’s hard for us to pinpoint which ones are keepers. Have you ever noticed that when you try a new product, you’re in skin heaven for the first few weeks? And then, all of a sudden, it all starts to go downhill. Clogged pores, dry skin, irritation, random breakouts…you name it.
That’s why “tried and true” products are definite #COMustHaves. You gotta have something to fall back on when nothing else is working, right?
What the Heck, Skin?
I’m not sure if it’s the seasons changing, the wedding planning, the loads of projects we’ve got going on, the constant traveling…or all of the above, but my skin is NOT happy with me at the moment! It’s very irritated around my chin and nose area and is extremely dry, which is something I’ve never dealt with before being that my skin is on the oilier side.
So what exactly am I using these days to soothe my angry skin? Well, it seems like I’m using an array of CO Approved products! I change things up depending on how my skin is reacting that day.
My Morning CO Approved Skincare Products
Since my skin is overly irritated and dry, I’m being extra gentle with it. That means less scrubs, more oils and lots of calming toners.
For the past couple of weeks, I’ve been cleaning my face in the morning with just my Simple Micellar Water. My skin is usually very calm in the morning when I wake up, so I don’t like to disrupt that by using a more powerful facial cleanser that may dry my skin out right away. After my workout, I wipe my face clean with Simple and then hop in the shower. I then follow up with the Cocokind Rosewater Toner to even out my skintone…that stuff is my fav!
As for moisturizer in the morning, I’m kind of at a loss here. I’ve been switching between the Cocokind Chia Seed Oil and the Glossier Priming Moisturizer because I’m honestly not sure which one, if either, is working for me. My skin seems to dry out as the day goes on…likely due to it getting irritated from allergens in the air (and stress build-up). And using either a cream moisturizer or an oil-based moisturizer doesn’t seem to make a difference.
I’ve determined it’s not my makeup (Glossier Tinted Moisturizer) because I stopped using it for a few weeks and still saw the irritation. So now, I’m on the hunt for a good morning moisturizer that can keep my skin hydrated and calm throughout the day. Any suggestions?? Comment below pretty please!
My Nighttime CO Approved Products
By this point, my skin is basically YELLING at me. Ugh, poor skin!
Lately, my nighttime skincare routine consists of washing my face in the shower with Acure Sensitive Facial Cleanser (I use either the Acure Brightening Scrub or the Pura Scrub only once a week now…versus my usual two times a week) and then following up with the Acure Argan Oil.
Prior to my recent skin troubles, I would usually follow up my in-shower face washing with extra cleansing with Micellar Water, toning with the Rosewater Toner and moisturizing with the Chia Seed Facial Oil. But instead, I’ve dwindled it down to just layering on a good amount of the Acure Argan Oil after I get out of the shower and take my makeup off. It’s the heaviest oil I own and seems to keep my skin hydrated well into the morning. I wake up and my skin is super glowy! This is a definite “tried and true” CO product for me.
So What’s the Verdict?
It looks like Acure is my CO Approved go-to. I seem to always fall back on it when other products are messing with my skin. But to be honest, even Acure isn’t curing my skincare woes!
I truly do believe the health of your skin comes from the inside, so I’m hoping it starts to calm down once I start to calm down. Looks like I might need to introduce some meditating (and maybe some extra yoga classes) to find my inner OMMMM. In the meantime, I’ll be sticking to the products I know have worked for me in the past and hope they come through!
Why Me? Why Now?
So I’m right there with Claudia. Seasons are changing, life is throwing curve balls and my skin is a WRECK. I’m talking breakouts galore, people. My cheeks, chin and even my neck are experiencing some of the worst of times right now. Cystic breakouts, bumps, redness, etc. But wait…it gets better. I have engagement photos next week. Ha! Lucky me.
So I’m in a bit of a panic, which probably doesn’t help my situation, and I’m pulling out all my fav CO Approved products to save me.
My Morning CO Approved Routine
Just like Claudia, my skin is the happiest in the morning so I do my best to not irritate it. My go-to gentle cleanser is the Glossier Milky Jelly Cleanser. I can always rely on this to make my face feel fresh, but never dry or irritated. It’s the best product when you don’t want to rock the boat too much!
Staying with my fresh, but gentle vibe. I follow up with my Cocokind Rosewater Toner all over my face. It’s so refreshing and calming, you can’t go wrong with this one! Next up, Cocokind MyMatcha Stick under my eyes because I need to wake the heck up! This product has done WONDERS for my under eyes. I’ve honestly never had another eye product work like this does. Another perk – it was cheap ($8.99) and feels like it’s going to last forever so that’s my kind of deal!!
Since I’ve been breaking out lately, I’ve reverted back to my Glossier Priming Moisturizer rather than using oils in the morning. When I have lots of breakouts, I avoid my heavy oils. I never want to feed the beast! Plus, this stuff works great at prepping my skin for my Glossier Perfecting Skin Tint, Stretch Concealer, and Cloud Paint. Gotta love Glossier!
My Bedtime CO Approved Routine
This my favorite time of day. There’s something oh-so therapeutic about cleaning the day away. Speaking of clean, I start my routine by getting my face squeaky clean using two products: Pacifica Cactus Micellar Water and Cocokind Organic Eye Firming Oil. First, I take just a couple pumps of eye firming oil, using my fingers, and rub it all over my eyes to loosen up all that makeup. Then, I use a cotton pad doused in micellar water and rub it all over my face and eyes to pick everything up. That stuff is magical, honestly.
Then, I jump in the shower and grab my Acure Organics Facial Cleansing Gel to finish off the job. After I get out of the shower, lately I’ve been running to my Franklin & Whitman Midtown Village Face Mask. For the past few days, I’ve even used it everyday. This is a great gentle, but effective mask. When I use it consistently, I see serious improvements in the texture of my skin and the quantity of breakouts.
After masking, I follow with Cocokind Raspberry Vinegar Toner (it’s more effective on oily or breakout-prone skin!). For my breakouts, I’ve been using the Cocokind Turmeric Stick as a spot treatment. Instead of using it for 20 minutes and taking it off, I let it soak all night. Since turmeric stains, I’ve literally been sleeping on a towel on top of my pillow…gotta do what you gotta do. Seriously, when I have big monster breakouts, the turmeric stick greatly reduces their size and intensity. It’s a savior. Once I have my turmeric soaking, I put Cocokind Chia Seed Oil on the rest of my face.
So What’s the Deal?
The deal is that although these products are working great for solving my needs on the short-term, I’m not sure they’re enough to get me through seasons changing and life stressors. It makes me wonder…should I switch back to my chemical-filled foes?
I’m willing to give the “clean beauty” route one more shot. This time, I’m going with Osea. I’ve heard nothing but amazing things about their pricey, but effective, products. So, I’m giving it a trial run! I ordered the travel-size blemish and oily kit, but also added a travel-size Ocean Cleansing Milk to help achieve some #balance.
Speaking of balance. Claudia…I’ll be joining you in that OMMM sesh.
The Aha! Moment here is pretty obvious: our skin changes and so should our products!
The same routine might not work forever…for some people it will (lucky them!) but for most of us, our skin is ever-changing and we need to learn to listen to it and respond.
Hence, why we’re always on the hunt for new products! You never know what might work for your skin until you try it, right? And lucky for you, we’re always here to be your beauty certifiers. Looks like I’m off to find a good morning moisturizer and Sam is off on her Osea adventure!
We’ll be in touch soon with more results!
