    Winter Sucks

    Okay, sorry. There’s no two ways about it! Winter just sucks. The weather here in Michigan is dropping into the negatives this week, friends. So you know what that means? It’s time to amp up our beauty routines! We’re talking more masks, more oils, more ultra-hydrating creams…basically more moisture!

    And that applies to our nails too! Sometimes we spend so much time and money taking care of our hair and skin that we forget about the nails. But with dry, frigid weather comes brittle, weak nails. So we have to give them the extra TLC they deserve!

    Here are my three tips on how to cure dry winter nails…

    Add Collagen to Your Diet

    This one’s a triple whammy because collagen is not only great for your nails but also for you hair and skin! I’ve been experimenting with collagen for about 6 months now, and I truly think it’s a great supplement to add to your diet.

    The first thing I noticed when I started taking collagen on a regular basis was that my nails were growing at the speed of light! They were also MUCH stronger and even looked shinier. People that were close to me would even comment on how nice my nails looked! Who doesn’t want that?

    I took a break from collagen for about two months due to some digestive issues (which were NOT collagen related!) and noticed that my nails started breaking and peeling way more than usual. So this stuff seriously makes a difference!

    So what does collagen even do?

    It holds our sh*t together! No, but really. Collagen is a protein that acts as the “glue” that holds our bodies together. It also helps increase blood flow in your body, which then increases blood flow to your nails and scalp (a.k.a. it helps them grow!)

    Unfortunately, we all start to lose collagen production when we hit our mid 20’s. Hello! So in order to help our bodies continue to produce an ample amount of collagen, we need to add collagen-boosting supplements into our diets.

    My second tip on how to cure dry winter nails is: cuticle oil! You guys know I’m slightly obsessed with keeping my cuticles perfect, right? If not, read this.

    Adding cuticle oil into my regular beauty routine has made SUCH a difference in my nails! If your cuticles are healthy and hydrated, your nails will also look healthy and hydrated. Easy peasy!

    Every morning, after I’m done getting ready…

    1. I wash my hands with warm water to soften the cuticles.
    2. Then, I apply my Deco Miami cuticle oil all over each nail.
    3. I massage the product into my nails until it’s slightly absorbed.
    4. And I finish it off with some hand lotion.

    It’s that simple! The main thing you’ll notice is that your nails will actually stay shiny and hydrated all day long. I’ve also found that using cuticle oil helps my manicure last longer because it doesn’t dry out as fast! It’s a win-win my friends.

    Use a Nourishing Base Polish

    Any time I feel like my nails need a boost of strength, I put on a couple of coats of my favorite base: Dermelect’s Makeover Ridge Filler. This stuff is pure magic for your nails!

    It’s made with a keratin protein peptide and a pentavitin moisture magnet that:

    • Fills and masks nail ridges
    • Strengthens weak nails
    • Restores nail flexibility

    Not to mention, it has a really pretty, light pink hue to it that makes your nails look perfect without having to give yourself an entire manicure.

    I got this base in one of my FabFitFun boxes and haven’t looked back since!     Insert: me raising both hands.

    Seriously though, the more I travel, the more I want to KEEP traveling! Anyone else feel like this? This past year, I’ve had the privilege to travel overseas three times: Turks and Caicos for my bachelorette, Italy and Austria for my honeymoon, and Madrid for New Years. Grateful doesn’t even begin to explain how I feel about all of these experiences!

    With all those trips overseas, I picked up little tricks here and there that made each travel experience easier and easier…especially when it came to my beauty routine.

    So with that my friends, I give you my top beauty hacks for traveling overseas!

    Hack #1: Get Travel-Sized Everything

    Even if you’re going away for a long period of time, I highly recommend you get as many travel-sized items as possible! Why you ask?

    Because checked luggage gets lost all the time!

    So with that in mind, you’re going to want to pack a good carry-on bag. And by that, I mean a carry-on with pjs, an extra outfit, some nice pairs of undies and socks, and ALL your beauty must-haves. (Not sure what your must-haves are yet? Check out this post for some inspo!)

    You might be tempted to bring all your full-sized beauty products and stick them in your checked luggage to ensure you won’t run out. I get it! But you won’t be a happy camper if your bag gets lost midway between here and your dreamy destination, and you find yourself without your favorite hair or skincare products for days on end. Not to mention, it’s even harder to shop for all new beauty products in a foreign country because the brands are so different.

    Trust me on this one. Get travel-sized everything and carry it all on with you!

    If your favorite shampoo, conditioner, body wash, face wash, etc. doesn’t come in a travel-sized bottle, just buy yourself a few of these LiquiSnug bottles. They’re, by far, the best travel bottles I’ve ever had. No leaks, no messes.

    Hack #2: Don’t Bother Washing Your Hair

    For the plane, I mean!

    I used to always want my hair to be super clean and fresh for the plane so it would look nice when we got to our destination. HA! That’s a load of bologna right there. Ladies, your hair will look and feel DIS-GUS-TING after 8 hours on a plane. Believe me! You’re going to want to sprint to your hotel room as soon as you get there and take a nice, hot shower.

    Instead of washing your hair pre-flight…and then again post-flight, use the time you have on the plane to apply some “overnight” hair treatments! That way your hair will look fab for your first official outing in a new country.

    You can make it simple and just apply some good ‘ole coconut oil to combat the dryness of the airplane. If you want to get a little fancy with your coconut oil, try the Kopari Beauty Coconut Melt!

    Or, you can go all out with OUAI and give their treatment mask or hair oil a try. Both will help your hair from totally drying out during the flight. By the way, this is Sam’s all-time favorite hair care brand, so you’re in good hands!

    Hack #3: Pack Some Wisps!

    Another thing that will feel totally gross after a long flight overseas is your teeth! Once again, you’re going to want to sprint to your hotel room and brush your teeth like a maniac. Think about it: you ate multiple times, probably had a drink or two and then fell asleep (or attempted to) for about 5-6 hours. Yuck.

    Even though a lot of people bring their toothbrushes and toothpaste on the plane, I recommend just bringing a little bag of Colgate’s Disposable Mini Toothbrushes (a.k.a. Wisps!) Why these and not your trusty toothbrush?

    Well, for one, do you really want to spend more time in an airplane bathroom than you have to? Those things are NASTAY! I think I would literally gag trying to brush my teeth in there after an 8-hour flight. The thought of my toothbrush being anywhere near those bathrooms just gives me the heebie jeebies!

    And secondly, Wisps are just so easy to use. You just pop one out, brush your teeth (sans water) and throw it away! The result is a minty fresh mouth. Of course, nothing will ever be as good as brushing your teeth with a good toothbrush and real toothpaste, but this is a quick and easy solution that will help you from feeling totally gross after your long flight.

    Hack #4: Bring Valerian and Probiotics

    What’s the secret to a natural, healthy glow? Good sleep and stellar gut health. And lot’s of water, of course!

    When traveling overseas, you’re going to be indulging in all sorts of different foods and drinks (as you should!) Not to mention, your sleep schedule might be slightly off. So that natural, healthy beauty glow might be a little harder to achieve. But if you want to look and feel your absolute best throughout your trip, you’re going to need to get your sleep and your gut in shape. No matter what! So let’s talk supplements…

    We like to take Valerian Root capsules to help us sleep on the plane and as we’re adjusting to the time change. Valerian (sometimes referred to as “nature’s valium”) is a root that is native to Asia and Europe and has been used since ancient times to promote sleep and relaxation. Tbh, sleeping on planes is nearly impossible for me, even when I take Valerian! But it does help me relax so much that I do end up dozing off into light sleep for a few hours. I highly recommend if you’re looking for a more natural way to promote sleep!

    Hack #5: Pack Dual-Purpose Makeup

    Being that you’re packing all your makeup in your carry-on as instructed above my moi, you’re going to want to keep your makeup bag light and simple. The best way I’ve found to do that is by packing dual-purpose products! Below are some examples…

    Instead of bringing sunscreen and foundation, simply pack a tinted moisturizer or a CC cream with SPF in it. Bam! Kill two birds with one stone! When it comes to tinted moisturizers, Sam and I both recommend the First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Tinted Moisturizer. It has all sorts of amazing ingredients that keep your skin nice and glowy and has SPF 30. Another current obsession of mine is the Lune+Aster CC Cream with SPF 50. This cream is perfect because it provides great coverage without leaving your skin super oily or clogged up!

    Bring a palette that you can use as eyeshadow, bronzer and highlighter. Instead of bringing three separate palettes or powders, find one that has all three! My favorite is the Tarte Pro Glow Palette. I use a mix of the golds and shimmers on the eyes and cheeks and the darker shades as bronzers for my face. Check out this video for a quick tutorial!

    Pack a lip balm that can double as a lip stain. Rather than bringing lip balms, lipsticks and lip glosses, bring one that both nourishes your lips and gives them a nice color pop. Glossier has two great options! If you want more of a light glossy look, go for the Cherry Balm Dot Com. If you want more pop, check out their Generation G Lipsticks! Both Sam and her mom are obsessed because they’re super hydrating but still have a good amount of color to them.

    Weleda Skin Food Cream

    It’s a cream! It’s a balm! It’s SKIN FOOD!

    I went into this thinking that Weleda Skin Food was…well, a cream! Lol But to be completely honest, I think it’s more like a mix between a cream and balm. When they say “ultra-rich”, they’re not kidding! It truly is like a luscious meal for your skin.

    The Scent + Texture

    The first thing I noticed when I opened the cap was the citrus-y scent. OMG it’s the best! It smells really fresh but at the same time has a warmness to it that relaxes me at night.

    I loooove the fact that all the fragrances in this cream come from natural oils. They use an herbal blend of chamomile, rosemary, calendula, and pansy that smells divine and feels so nourishing on the skin.

    Fun fact: If you go to the ingredients list for this product, you can click each individual ingredient to see what it is, what its benefits are and where it’s derived from. Extra points to Weleda for transparency!

    When it comes to texture, this stuff is somewhere between a cream and balm. It is SUPER THICK. But at the same time, it does absorb nicely if you give it some time. It’s also not too oily and doesn’t leave behind any residue.

    Is Weleda Skin Food Good for All Skin Types?

    It depends! For reference, I have combination skin. My t-zone is oily but the rest of my face is a bit on the dry side (especially in the winter!)

    When I bought this cream, I bought it thinking it would be a replacement for my First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream. So I used it as such and applied it morning and night.

    I would wash my face, apply a serum and lather on a small dollop of Skin Food on my face. Even though the cream felt very heavy and rich, it did absorb nicely (especially overnight) and made my skin super dewy and soft.

    However, after about two weeks of following this routine, I noticed that my pores were getting a bit clogged from the heaviness of the cream/balm. And my makeup looked a little too shiny by the end of the day with all that moisture.

    So I decided to cut my use down to a few nights a week as more of a “nourishing treatment mask”…like a super hydrating smoothie concoction but for my face! It is skin food after all 🙂

    For people with combination and oily skin, this is a great alternative to the more expensive Summer Fridays Jet Lag Mask. It’s light enough to wear on the plane or at home on the weekends but also moisturizing enough to be an overnight mask. (Even though it’s not technically a mask!)

    For those of you with dry, acne-prone skin, I think this could be a great every day option! If you check out the reviews on the Weleda site, you’ll see that a lot of people with dry skin have used this to clear their acne. Don’t take my word for it! But it’s worth giving a try.

    Even though I ended up using it completely differently than I thought I would, I do still think it does an amazing job at nourishing dry skin. Plus…

    1. It’s made with clean ingredients.
    2. It smells delish!
    3. It is totally budget-friendly.

    Weleda actually just came out with a new Light version of this cream that I think I’m going to test out as a day cream! Super excited about this. I’ll keep ya posted 🙂

    Let’s Talk Protein Powders

    When I reached out to you guys on our Instagram asking what you wanted our next post to be about, many of you mentioned your struggle to find a protein powder that not only tastes good but also sits well. So I’m here to help!

    And this post couldn’t have come at a better time because I’m currently on the hunt for the next best protein powder to experiment with myself!

    Okay so first things first…keep in mind that everyone’s bodies and tastes are different. So what I might think is absolutely delish might not exactly be your cup of powder tea. And what might sit really well with my digestive system might not be the best for yours.

    Either way, the guidelines below should help you narrow down your choices so you can find the best protein powder for YOU!

    How to pick the best protein powder

    1: Pick a Clean Source of Protein

    Whey, pea, collagen, brown rice, egg, hemp…there’s so many to choose from! So where do you start?

    Well first, you have to ask yourself whether you want animal protein or plant protein. Personally, I prefer plant protein (specifically pea protein), but I do like to mix it up every now and then with some grass-fed bovine collagen. I’m currently experimenting with both Collagen for Her and Primal Kitchen Collagen Fuel to see which of the two I like best!

    Regardless of whether you pick animal or plant protein, you MUST pay attention to the quality of protein you’re getting. Look for terms like: organic, grass-fed (if animal), soy-free, non-GMO, etc.

    Many people in the wellness world tell you to stay away from whey protein. And I personally do because of my intolerance to dairy. HOWEVER, if you’re trying to build muscle, whey is definitely one of the better proteins to try. And if your tummy is good with dairy, then have at it (as long as it’s coming from milk from grass-fed cows)! I’ve been curious to try the F-Factor Whey Protein. Have any of you given it a try?

    2: Look for Minimal Ingredients

    Beware of the ingredients people! There are so many low-quality protein powders out there…OMG. The last thing you want is for your protein powder to be filled with a laundry list of ingredients that you can’t even pronounce.

    Ingredients to stay away from: soy, gluten, food coloring, GMO, artificial sweeteners, “natural flavors”, vegetable oils, casein (it’s basically all lactose and super hard to digest!), dextrins or maltodextrin, skim milk powders, thickeners and fillers.

    The thing I love most about the Naked Pea Protein is that it is literally THREE ingredients! Non-GMO peas, coconut sugar and cacao powder or vanilla (depending on the flavor). Ever since I found this protein powder, I’ve made it my mission to only experiment with brands that offer simple, clean ingredients.

    Some other protein powders with clean ingredients are:

    I haven’t experimented with all of these just yet, so don’t take my word for it when it comes to taste. But do trust me when I say these are the few protein powders out there with the cleanest ingredients. They’re hard to come by I tell ya!

    How to pick the best protein powder

    3: Check Out the Cost per Ounce

    Even though I don’t think you should cheap out on protein powder, I do recommend you pay attention to the cost per ounce. Being that I put protein powder in my smoothies on an almost daily basis, I have to make sure I’m getting my money’s worth!

    My biggest issue with the Tone It Up protein powder is how little you get for it. Even though it’s not expensive ($23), I felt like I was buying a new tub of it like every other week because you only get 11.36 ounces.

    So far, I’ve found that Naked Protein ($1.12/oz) wins the category of both cleanest ingredients and best bang for your buck. But I’m determined to find more, I promise!

    I think anywhere between $1-$2/oz is a good range. Anything below that is likely filled with a bunch of crap and anything above that is basically overpriced.

    So the Best Protein Powder…

    1. Comes from clean animal or plant protein sources
    2. Is made with simple and REAL ingredients
    3. Doesn’t cost you an arm and a leg

    That’s it friends! It sounds simple, but let me tell you it’s quite the process trying to find the best protein powder out there. This will be something I’ll continuously post about because I think it’s important to have a good powder to fall back on! Because smoothies = life. Am I right??

    Why I Quit Cardio

    That’s right friends. Earlier this year, I decided to make a big shift in my workout routine and completely dropped intense cardio and HIIT routines. Yeah, me! The girl who was literally obsessed with running! And to be honest…it was kind of a hard choice to make.

    Time to get a little deep.

    Body image issues just suck don’t they?? Many of us put so much pressure on ourselves to look perfect and skinny all the time, and we feel like in order to do so we have to torture ourselves with gruesome workouts and crazy diets.

    And even though I felt like I had overcome the “crazy diet” part with my Fab Four lifestyle, I was still totally killing myself at the gym every day. I felt like I HAD to do some form of cardio every day or else I wasn’t really “working out”. (Yet all my joints were KILLING me and my thighs seemed bulkier than ever…)

    Sounds ridiculous right?? And that’s because it is! Don’t get me wrong, some people completely thrive off of cardio. But then there’s people like me who absolutely do not…never have and never will! #sorrynotsorry

    How I Learned about P.volve

    My P.volve Routine: From Then to Now

    To be completely honest, I was pretty skeptical about this program when I first started. First off, it didn’t include any cardio (lol I was so crazy about cardio!) and second of all, there were no real lunges or jump squats or bicep curls or…any of the traditional moves I was used to.

    But at the same time, I was craving something new in my workout routine and knew deep down that I had to cut back on the cardio a bit. So I gave it a whirl!

    I started with their 30 Day Evolution program, which is a great way to learn the form (the KEY to getting results!), the moves and P’s teaching style. My first day in, I felt a little frazzled! The moves were so different and so much smaller in range to what I was used to. It felt like a mind exercise more than anything! But the nice thing about the 30 Day Evolution is that you do the same 4 workout videos throughout the 30 days. So you really get to know the moves and perfect your form!

    I stuck with the 30 Day Evolution for about three weeks and then decided I felt comfortable enough to move on to their extensive streaming library of workouts that P records in his NYC-based studio. And I haven’t looked back since! I was originally doing a couple days of cardio (low-impact dancing or stairmaster) a week but eventually dropped all cardio and stuck to P.volve and walking.

    Currently, I do P.volve videos 4 times a week and mix in some longer stretching routines and walking. And of course take a couple days a week OFF! Like completely off.

    I haven’t felt this good about my health and my body in a looooong time!

    The P.volve Specifics

    Alright guys, below is a little video of me doing one of the P.volve workouts. It’s cut down into snippets so I don’t show you the entire workout but you get the jist of the style of movements and the technique.

    Now, let’s break down this program, shall we?

    • Length of workouts: They range from 20-60+ minutes. So it is totally dependant on you and your schedule. And they are ALL effective…no matter what!
    • Equipment used: Okay, so this is where it gets a little tricky. P.volve DEFINITELY requires equipment for it to be 100% effective. Below is a list of the equipment they use with my thoughts on what is totally necessary and what you can live without to start off!
      • 2lb hand weights  – Must have!
      • Light and heavy resistance bands – I only have light and am loving it!
      • Light and heavy ankle weights – Sam here…only have light!
      • Gliders – You can use paper plates or towels!
      • P.ball – I don’t have this one yet…but if you have the money to invest, definitely get this one! It’s meant to target those inner thighs like nothing else.
      • P.band – A great one for the arms but not necessary right away.

    I don’t have the P.band or the P.ball yet…but once my bank account is back to norm (hello wedding and moving!), you bet I’ll be investing in those two! Either way, I feel like I get the full-body P.volve experience with the equipment I already own.

    You’re probably wondering, “Okay, so what happened to your body after you gave up cardio??” And my answer is, “My body has never been so happy!”

    About a month into my P.volve journey, I noticed the following AMAZING things…

    1. My thighs leaned out a TON and I immediately noticed different muscles carving out…”runway muscles” as P calls them. (Did I mention he trains Victoria Secret models??)
    2. The booty is perky and pumped! P.volve focuses on getting the bulk out of the thighs by placing a larger emphasis on the butt. And the results show!
    3. Abs be poppin!! Seriously though, my abs feel so elongated and strong! And not a single sit up was involved.
    4. Stress levels are down…hunger is down…energy is UP. I think I was spending so much energy on cardio that I was literally ruining my body from the inside out. My body feels so much more relaxed (but very strong and defined) and my appetite has calmed wayyyy down.
    5. I lost 5lbs! Now, I don’t have much to lose TBH…and am not doing these workouts to lose weight. But I do feel like a lot of the bulkiness I was seeing from other workouts disappeared and thus a few pounds were shed.

    In other words, I’m a happy camper!

    I am now three months into my P.volve journey and the results just keep coming! Not to mention, I feel like this is a such a sustainable way to workout. I’m not killing myself every day, which basically means I have more energy to continue this workout program for quite some time! And every single workout is different than the next, so I never get bored.

    Of course, my body’s needs will change over time…some weeks I might need more walking and other weeks I might need more yoga? But I know that I can always count on P.volve to tone my body from head to toe!

    Let’s Talk Wedding Prep

    You’ve got the venue, the food, the music, the flowers, the bridesmaids dresses, the rings, the…omg the EVERYTHING. But what about your pre-wedding beauty routine??

    Okay, let me start off by saying that if you’re a bride-to-be, I do NOT want you to be stressed about your beauty routine. Because, let’s face it, more stress = more breakouts. I wanted to put this post together to show you how easy it can be to prep your skin and hair for the big day. It’s actually all about simplifying!

    I must admit, I had big ideas on what I thought I wanted my pre-wedding beauty prep to be, but believe me when I say, it’s one of the last things you’ll be thinking about. Facials? Forget about it. Spray tans? Ain’t nobody got time for that! The only appointments you’ll need to make are for your hair color and nails. That’s it loves!

    Everything else can be taken care of with good #COapproved products and a simple at-home routine that works for you and your uber busy schedule. Below is exactly what I did to get ready for my big day (which was freaking perfection btw!!)…but keep in mind that you have to do what’s right for you!!

    How To Get the Perfect Wedding Glow

    First things first, SKIN! Everyone always talks about wanting to look glowy and dewy and perfect for the big day. And let me tell ya, if you follow a similar routine to mine…you WILL glow! Everyone was commenting all weekend that both Alex and I had that wedding glow.

    So what’s the secret? MOISTURIZE LIKE THERE’S NO TOMORROW!

    And happiness, of course! Happiness is alwaaaays the key to healthy glow 🙂

    Alright, so we’re going to be happy and we’re going to moisturize like crazy right? Below are my exact morning and night skincare routines!

    Morning Skincare Routine

    Every morning, after I workout, I take a quick shower and wash my face with a small dollop of the First Aid Beauty Face Wash. It’s simple, it’s effective and it cleans like nobody’s business. My face always feels so smooth and refreshed when I use this face wash. I highly recommend it!

    My second and LAST step is moisturizing with my all-time fav and repeat all-star: the First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream.

    And that’s it! I keep it suuuper simple in the mornings…when you have a million things running around in your brain, the last thing you want to think about is a complicated skincare routine. I suggest you find a simple face wash, an amazing moisturizer, add in a little SPF (I do so with my tinted moisturizer) and that’s it.

    Pre-Wedding Beauty Routine Skincare

    Nighttime Skincare Routine

    At night, I pay a liiiiittle more attention to my skin. And again, it’s starts in the shower! (Even though I always rinse off in the morning, I absolutely HAVE to shower at night too.) So when I’m showering, I like to wash my face again with one of the following three:

    1. First Aid Beauty Face Wash
    2. Kate Somerville Scrub
    3. Elemis Papaya Peel

    I like to use the scrub or the peel a couple of times a week (typically Wednesdays and Sundays) and alternate between the two depending on how my skin is feeling. The Kate Somerville scrub is a little stronger than the Elemis Papaya Peel so if I feel like I need a good cleanse, I go to Kate. And if I want something ultra moisturizing, I go to Elemis.

    After I shower and pat my face dry, I apply a light layer of the Sunday Riley C.E.O Rapid Brightening Serum. Funny story about this one! I got it as sample in one of my HUM Nutrition orders (also a key for wedding prep!) and fell in love with it right away.

    I typically wouldn’t recommend you try new products the month before your wedding (LOL), but I took the chance with this one and am sooo happy I did. It instantly brightens your skin and gives you a healthy glow, and when you wake up in the morning, it’s like WOW. My face looks gooooood. I’ll probably do a whole separate post about this product once I decide to buy the full size…but man is it expensive!

    Moisturize, Moisturize, Moisturize

    Finally, I end my routine with a hefty layer of my First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream. I noticed that the more moisturized my skin was, the less I would break out! This cream is so nice because it never lets pimples actually poke through. Some days I would see a few almost-breakouts and next thing I knew, they were gone! And I’m 10000% sure it’s because of this moisturizer.

    Alright, so face wash (or scrub), serum and moisturizer. That’s all you need friends! Easy peasy.

    The Key to Healthy Locks Before the Wedding

    You’ll likely have several color appointments before the big day. And we all know what that means! DRY HAIR. Well, at least if you’re like me and you get highlights. Before the one-month mark, I was using regular good ol’ Pantene shampoo and conditioner. But I noticed that my hair and scalp were getting a little dry. So I switched to my all-time favorite moisturizing shampoo: Virtue Recovery.

    It smells glorious, it feels luxurious and it leaves your hair shiny and healthy. I mean, does it really get any better? I used this shampoo with the Pantene conditioner (which I think works really well actually!) up until the night before my wedding. And I’m so glad I did! My hair felt strong and smooth and was cooperating very nicely when it came to styling 🙂

    I didn’t worry about doing any scalp treatments or hair masks because I’m not joking when I say, “Ain’t nobody got time for that!” As you can tell, my motto with this whole thing is to keep it simple and use products that WORK.

    Pre-Wedding Beauty Routine Teeth Whitening

    Now for that Pretty Smile

    You’ll be smiling ALL DAY. Both from happiness and for pictures! So it’s important to make sure your smile is bright and sparkly for the big day. But, don’t you worry! No expensive teeth whitening treatments ahead. Just you, a toothbrush, some floss and our go-to Oral Essentials strips.

    I think that if you keep up on your oral hygiene, your teeth naturally whiten. So if you’re going to put in extra effort into something, make sure you put it towards FLOSSING. Flossing every single night has completely changed the color of my smile. Because healthy gums = healthy bright teeth!

    I thought I was going to do the full 14-day Oral Essentials before the wedding, but once again, when your thoughts are running a thousand miles per hour, you likely will forget to whiten your teeth. I used about 5 strips before the wedding and brought one set with me for the morning of! And it was perfect. My teeth were still white and clean and sparkly.

    Basically, what I’m trying to get at with this whole thing is…

    • Keep it simple…the less you stress, the better!
    • Use products you know you love
    • Don’t stray too much out of your routine
    • Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize…repeat

Stay true to your routine, listen to your body and your skin and let things simply flow. And most importantly, don’t stress about a THING! You will look stunning no matter what!

    Bachelorette party planning is really fun but can also be a little stressful! Especially if you’re planning a destination getaway. But I’m about HOOK YOU UP with my top 5 tips for planning your dream vacay while still enjoying every single minute of it.

    My Top 5 Destination Bachelorette Planning Tips

    If you follow us on insta, you likely saw me mention that my bachelorette party was in the beautiful island of Providenciales in Turks and Caicos. That’s right friends! It was a tropical paradise. It still feels surreal that I was there! lol

    Okay, so you’re probably wondering…why Turks and Caicos? Who did you invite? Did you have a budget? How much did you plan in advance?

    My 5 little tips and tricks below will hopefully answer all of those questions and MORE!

     

    1. Pick a location that makes your soul happy.

    So why Turks and Caicos, you ask? Simple: I’m a total beach girl. Growing up in sunny South Florida and being from Venezuela means I spent my best childhood days out on the beach with my toes in the sand and salt in my hair.

    But guess who doesn’t LOVE the beach vacays like I do?? Yup, my fiancé! lol So I knew this was my chance to get in the ultimate tropical vacation. Not to mention, I wanted a relaxing, worry-free bachelorette (I was in desperate need of recharging my batteries!), and I feel most at ease at the beach so it was the natural way to go.

    If you’re having trouble figuring out where to go with your girls, just ask yourself these simple questions:

    • Where have you always wanted to go with a group of girlfriends?
    • What do you want to be doing every day? Relaxing? Exploring? Wine tasting?
    • Do you want to fly, drive or take a train?

    Pick a spot that makes YOU happy (don’t worry about everyone else!) and also keep in mind the travel process. If you’re flying, I highly recommend you go somewhere where you can take a direct flight. We had a layover on our trip and two of the girls ended up missing their connection on the way there due to delays so they got in a day late.

    Not the end of the world but you want to make sure you make the travel as easy as possible!

     

    2. Surround yourself with friends and family who allow you to be 100% yourself.

    I know this sounds cheesy, but trust me on this one. You want to take this trip of a lifetime with the group of girls (or guys!) who will bring out the best in you! The last thing you want is to have to put on a face or feel like you have to pretend to be something you’re not on YOUR trip.

    I was super lucky because everyone that went to Turks and Caicos with me has known me for a long time…so there’s nothing to hide! No pretending. No fakeness. Just real friendships…which means LOTS of belly laughs!

    Yeah, you’ll remember the adventures and the food and the hotel…but the memories that will stick with you the longest are the ones you make with those special people who are there to celebrate you. So pick wisely my friends!

     

    3. Do a little less planning and a lot more adventuring.

     

    Bachelorette Trip Turks and Caicos

    If you’re a SUPER PLANNER like me, then it’s time to let it all go! As a bride, you already have tons on your mind in terms of planning. And the last thing you want to be stressing about is your bachelorette.

    Some brides choose to not be a part of the planning process whatsoever, but being that I was inviting friends and family from all over the country (and world!) who were from all different parts of my life, I thought it would be easiest if I kickstarted the process.

    But when it came down to actually being there…we let the wind take us in whatever direction it pleased. And it was amazing! We did plan one special excursion (if you’re going to Turks, the Caicos Dream Tour is a must!) and had a list of restaurants we knew we HAD to hit up, but that was about it!

    If there are specific things you absolutely want to do or want planned, make sure you delegate those tasks out to your bridesmaids/friends who are attending. They got your back girl!

    Also, quick destination bachelorette tip: listen to the locals! They know what’s up. So make friends and let them guide your plans in the right direction.

     

    4. It’s the little things that count.

    This one goes for both the bride and the planner/guests! Having a little something ready for your girls as a surprise is always a good idea. Especially for destination bachelorettes! There’s nothing like expressing your gratitude with a welcome bag full of beauty goodies they can use throughout the trip.

    My MOH and I went to Five Below the week before the trip and went a little nuts (after a couple glasses a wine…oops!) on the “Half Mermaid Half Unicorn” welcome baggies. We’re talking sheet masks, lip gloss, sunscreen, hair ties, waterproof phone cases…yeah, we went nuts.

    And on the other side, my amazing friends also brought some super fun goodies…like our cute little drink companions up there! These guys came with us EVERYWHERE we went! lol They also brought tropical decorations for the room, tons of candy, flash tattoos, a polaroid camera…a.k.a the makings of a fun bachelorette!

    These little details made my trip even more special than it already was. So it might seem silly, but trust me, it’ll make for some good stories! 🙂

     

    5. Don’t be afraid to say no.

    Brides, practice saying this with me…”NO THANK YOU.”

    I know this can be a tough one because a lot of us have an innate drive to want to please everyone. But, like I said before, this is YOUR trip and you can’t forget that!

    Every single second of my trip was magical and perfect, but that’s because I knew what I wanted to do and what I didn’t. At one point, we found ourselves in a local bar, listening to country music, watching a basketball game. And if you know me, you know I don’t like country and I’m definitely not an avid sports lover. So I told the girls, “Alright, let’s finish our drinks and go somewhere we can dance!”

    And so we did, and we ended up having the BEST night. We literally danced all night long. It was amazing.

    Moral of the story: You do you girl! As long as you’re happy, I can guarantee your friends will be too. Happiness is contagious you know 🙂

    “Aha-Moments” aren’t just for product reviews! They apply to all things in life. And I feel like, in this case, my aha moment was the KEY to having a perfect bachelorette.

    As I sat there on the beach with my friends, I realized that the amount of happiness that I felt was on another level, and it was simply because I was so extremely grateful to be sharing this amazing trip with my girls.

    So my ultimate tip to you is to be 100% in the moment and fill yourself with gratitude because this is a once-in-a-lifetime experience!

    Getting Naked Every Morning

    (I’m having a little too much fun with this name! lol)

    If you guys read my Body Love book review, you know I’m all about starting my day with a balanced Fab Four smoothie. And this calls for 25 to 30 grams of protein, which is why having a good protein powder is so important.

    After many failed attempts with other protein brands (including my beloved Perfect Fit), I decided to dig into Alex’s HUMUNGO 5lb Naked protein tub and give it a go.

    So I mixed up my favorite smoothie with lots of avocado, cucumber, spinach, almond milk and chia seeds and topped it off with two scoops of the Chocolate Less Naked Pea Protein.

    Lo and behold, I fell in love and now pull out my Naked Pea Protein tub almost EVERY morning!

    I must admit, it wasn’t total love at first taste. Especially after using Perfect Fit for so long! (That’s one of the best tasting protein powders I’ve ever come across…but not worth the tummy aches and breakouts.)

    When I first tried the Chocolate Naked Pea Protein, I thought it was a lot less flavorful. But the texture was perfect for my smoothies…nice and creamy! So I kept using it, day after day, and before I knew it, I was 100% in love.

    Now I’m onto their Vanilla flavor and love it even more! I love that you can see the little ground-up vanilla beans in the powder…that’s transparency right there!

    Alright, let’s get down to the nutritional facts. Which, much like the flavors, totally surprised me!

    I had several Aha! Moments with this one…

    Who’s ready to talk mud masks?! I AM!

    Thanks to the amazing FabFitFun, I got to experiment with the much talked-about Whish Renewing Mud Mask this past month. New masks are SO exciting, aren’t they?? Much like our HH eye gels, this mask was a nice little addition to my at-home spa kit.

    I didn’t know much about Whish before this, so of course, I put my CO research hat on and dug up all there is to know about this up-and-coming beauty company.

    This mud mask isn’t the only thing on the Whish product line-up. In fact, the company started off making women’s shaving cream! Founder, Aimee Werner, borrowed her husband’s imported, foamless shave cream one night and instantly fell in love with how silky smooth it left her skin. And she wished there were products like this for women (that smelled better, of course).

    Whish Renewing Mud Mask Review

    My First Mud Mask

    Yup, this was my first time ever owning and experimenting with a mud mask. Needless to say, I was very excited to give this product a try! However, when I received the Whish Renewing Mud Mask, my skin was on it’s “I’m irritated, leave me alone” phase.

    And after reading the instructions…

    “Mud mask is similar to a facial peel and may have similar results, including temporary redness and warmth. Begin by leaving on for 15 seconds and work up to 2 minutes.”

    …I was like WHAAAT? This sounds harsh! I thought for sure this would be too much for my skin at the time, so I decided to wait a bit to make sure my skin was ready for it.

    About a month later, my skin was back to its happy old self, thanks to my First Aid Beauty moisturizer. So I pulled out the Whish mask from my vanity and decided to give it a go!

    Whish, You Fooled Me!

    I must admit, after reading those instructions I was really nervous about how my skin would react to this mask. If it only says to leave it on for 15 seconds, it must really burn your skin!

    So, as instructed, I applied a very thin layer on my face after getting out of the shower and let it do its thang. Fifteen seconds later…no burning…30 seconds later…no burning. I ended up leaving it on for the full two minutes and am happy to report I felt no burning or irritation! *Of course, everyone’s skin is different so be mindful of how sensitive your skin is before applying this mask.*

    I rinsed it off, making sure to exfoliate by rubbing the product in circular motions, and voila! My first mud mask experience was a success!

    Right away, I noticed my skin was really soft and bright. I also noticed that it didn’t feel tight or dry at all…a common symptom of face masks. I followed up with my moisturizer and was all set for my beauty sleep.

    To Whish, Or Not to Whish

    Whish Renewing Mud Mask Experiment

    After using this mask four times, I must say I haven’t noticed much of a long-term effect on my skin. While it does brighten my skin right after using it, I don’t see huge difference in my skin the morning after.

    I think I’ll continue to use this mask to pamper myself from time to time, because why not? It feels nice on my skin, smells pretty good and gives me that extra glow. However, I don’t see myself buying it again. Now that I’ve dipped my toes in the mud mask world, I have to continue my experimentations with other brands!

    That $48 price tag is a little too high for what I like to spend on masks. Not to mention, this mask will likely last me awhile so by the time I’m done with it, I’ll want to try something new. That’s just the way us Certifiers are wired…new, new, new!

    Even though I likely won’t be buying this mud mask again, I’m really happy I got to experiment with it thanks to FabFitFun. I do, however, have my eye on the Whish body care products and shaving creams! I’m loving all the natural ingredients, and the reviews are out of this world.

    For now, Whish will not receive our CO Stamp of Approval…but hey, the experimentations aren’t over yet! Which products do you think we should try next?

    Dry Skin Begone!

    Remember in our latest skincare update post how I was complaining about my dry skin? Well, ICYMI, I was suffering from red bumps, dry patches and irritation all along my chin, cheeks and nose. It was not pretty, my friends! Not to mention, my skin was super itchy. I tried eliminating products and even certain foods from my diet to see if anything would make a difference, but…nada!

    So I went on the hunt to try and find the best cream for dry skin. There had to be something out there for me!

    I must admit, though, I was somewhat hesitant because it wasn’t the all-natural skincare solution I was hoping for. But honestly, those products don’t always work when your skin is in need of a major rescue!

    So I made my way over to Sephora to snag a free sample.

    I get to Sephora, and what do you know? The First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream is part of their Editor’s Pick display! I was feeling pretty good about my decision at this point, but just to make sure, I decided to also get a sample of the Belif Aqua Bomb cream being that it was also on the Editor’s Pick display and was recommended by a friend.

    And so, off I went to the land of CO experimentations, ready to give my skin the TLC it was in desperate need of!

    First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream

    Am I a Belif-er?

    I started my experimentation with the Belif Aqua Bomb cream. This one is more of a lightweight, gel-like cream that is said to increase your skin’s moisture by 70%…ummm, yes please me!

    A little insight though: the Sephora beauty specialist warned me that this might not be as moisturizing for my skin as I would like it to be. But I wasn’t really sure if my skin could handle THAT much extra moisture, so I figured it would be a good one to test out regardless.

    First thing I noticed was that it smelled amazing! And then I thought, “This is too good to be true. If it smells this good, it must have some sort of hidden fragrance.” And sure enough, the culprit “Fragrance” ingredient was on the list. Not the best if you’re skin is sensitive!

    Either way, I lathered up with the yummy-smelling gel every night and every morning for a week. I noticed that the dry, white patches were gone, but the red bumps were sadly still there. Also, this gel left my face kind of stiff after it dried. I felt like a plastic doll!

    Not to mention, the retail price for this was ridiculous compared to First Aid Beauty. A 1.6 oz bottle costs $38!

    So to answer your question…no, I am not a Belif-er after all.

    First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream to the Rescue!

    The following week, I switched over to my sample of FAB. This Intense Hydration cream had to be better than the last one, right?!

    YES! It was, indeed!

    First off, the smell is nowhere near as yummy as Belif. It actually has a slightly medicinal smell, in my opinion. But hey, the formula is free of any harsh fragrances and chemicals…so I’ll take it!

    Because this cream is thicker than the Aqua Bomb, the free sample did last me a bit longer. Ca-ching! I used this cream in the morning and night after washing my face for about a week and a half. And note: I removed every other moisturizer and toner from my routine so I could truly tell if this one was making a difference or not.

    After my preliminary testing week, I was in love. My skin was COMPLETELY back to normal! No bumps, no dry patches, no irritation. I couldn’t believe it!

    FAB, I Love You

    No joke, guys. This cream might possible be it for me. We’ll see how it works for my skin in the summer, but so far it’s been absolutely amazing. Like a dream come true for my skin!

    After I was done with my sample (sad, sad day), I immediately ordered the 2 oz. travel size to put it through the true CO test. Plus, this was really the perfect size since I’ve been traveling like crazy the past two months.

    This cream has not only changed my skin, but it has completely simplified my morning and night routine. All I do now is wash my face (micellar water in the morning and Acure at night), pat dry and moisturize away with my First Aid Beauty cream.

    I’m happy to report that even after two straight months of using this, day and night, I have yet to see or feel any sort of dry irritation. My skin is SO calm…and I’m SO relieved.

    I’ll be placing my order for the 6 oz. bottle in the next couple of weeks!

    My face has not broken out in two months. I’ll just leave it at that!

    The only time I notice any sort of bumps (on my forehead, specifically) is when I eat out too much or don’t get enough sleep. But guess what? These bumps don’t ever turn into nasty pimples! This cream keeps my skin so moisturized and balanced that any signs of breakouts go away in just a couple of nights. It’s amazing!

    My other Aha! Moment was when I realized that I could literally ditch every other cream, oil and toner I have in my vanity right now, and I would not even miss them! That’s how much I love this stuff. It’s simple, it’s clean and it WORKS.
